TSA: Carry-On Permitted and Prohibited Items In A... →
Tomorrow we are going to Chicago for 3 nights and 4 days.
Crazy as the security can be since 911, I was wondering if you can bring a disposable razor in your carry on. It looks like you can. I can shave and have a nice look for those fancy restaurants.

The Art of iPhone Battery Life →
Get 36 hours of standby time from your iPhone.
I tested those settings, and yes I even got 72 hours of standby:
3G: Off (EDGE is enought for Phone use)
Wi-Fi: Off
Push: Off
Fetch: Hourly
Location Service: Off
Bluetooth: Off
I only open Wi-Fi at the end of the day at the office to synch up via MobileMe any meetings or contacts that I added during the day. I then turn it off until I arrived...

Sony achieved that by separating the tuner from the display. The tuner (or MediaBox) is transmitting the image and sound via Wi-Fi. Now we are talking about a TV Frame on a wall.

Using Wi-Fi, drop files on your iPhone and share them easily. You can view your files natively if they’re in MS Office, text, or PDF formats. Others on your network can drop files for you to view. At $6.99 on the App Store, it’s a pretty good deal.
iPhone 3Gs now outnumber originals →
The statistics are astounding:

It took 74 days for the first million first-generation iPhones to sell
A million iPhone 3Gs were sold the first weekend they were on sale
Sources estimate anywhere from 750,000 - 800,000 iPhones are being made each week
Apple is on track to sell more than 40 million iPhones in the next year

Schramm's Take on His Favorite iPhone Apps →
I already talk about Aurora Feint, and I certainly agree with Mike, this is the most addictive game in the App Store, plus it’s free.
Matthieu, an office colleague, was not convinced about it until he felt asleep on it yesterday. It’s so addictive, I still miss my bus stop. What a game!

Looks like Google Suggest, the auto-complete for searches while you type your query in the input box, is finally good for primetime after 4 years in the lab. It should be out next week on the home page of Google.

Fred: Bonjour j'aimerais avoir le service de cable SVP.
Rep: Votre adresse?
Fred: 1894 Nom-de-la-rue

An iPhone Without Any Contract
We are now 5 iPhone owners here at the office and probably more in a near future. When I decided to get a first generation iPhone instead of the new iPhone 3G available at Rogers and Fido for a 3 years contract, many asked my why? The reason is simple and relied in three simple things:
I didn’t want a contract of 3 years with those rates.
I didn’t want to pay a minimum of $87.45...
Using Browser URL History To Estimate Gender →
Just smart! At the bottom of the post, you can click a button and do the test for yourself. I’m only a male at 96% ;(

Mike modified the SocialHistory JS so that it polled the browser to find out which of the...

The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of the monarchy in Afghanistan through the Soviet invasion,...

STM Mobile - Future Improvements
As many iPhone users and Montrealers, I bought (for only $0.99 on the Apple App Store) the STM Mobile iPhone application wrote by Ian Cloutier, an independent and not affiliated developer to the public transport organism. To build his database of bus route schedules, he used a technique called site scraping or sceen scraping to extract the data from the STM website.
The STM mobile application...

The Full Steve Jobs Email on MobileMe
In an internal e-mail sent to Apple employees, Steve Jobs admitted that MobileMe was launched too early and not up to Apple standards.
Here’s the full email:
Team, The launch of MobileMe was not our finest hour. There are several things we could have done better: – MobileMe was simply not up to Apple’s standards – it clearly needed more time and testing. – Rather than launch...
Advices For Authors Who Wish To Be Published
Here are two links that I found from the 37Signals blog (who are presently looking for a publisher for the 2nd edition of their book Getting Real).
I’m not interested in publishing a book (at least not yet!), but I find the their personal experiences very interesting.
The first one from Seth Godin is: Advice for authors
So, what’s my best advice?
Build an asset. Large numbers of...

Increase The iPhone Speaker Sound Volume by 100%
Before doing the surgery, I had my doubt, but after, the sound of my 1st gen iPhone speaker was clear and loud, at the point that I had to reduce it for some YouTube videos and iPod songs!
The operation is quite simple. You only need a needle to poke the film dust that cover the iPhone speaker (left of the cradle connector, the right one being the microphone). All the holes can be poke easily...
