I already praised my friend John for having created, in a single year, Fetlife, a very popular Facebook like social site for the BDSM fetish fans (over 150 000 members and counting).
Yes it’s about a subject that everyone may not be confortable with (I’m not!), but my point here has nothing to do with it. I’m more concert about how John succeed to create a great user experience for his members. It has, yes, a minimalist design and a fonctional user interface, but I find that its greatest strenght and quality lied in the tone and manner of its content. It’s written with a touch of humor and a sense of proximity that’s contributing alot to its charm and success.
