I’m disappointed by Tumblarity… I liked the Internet better when it was nebulous, and now I’m depressed that it shaping up to be a social pyramid.
Agreed. I was not sure how to react to this new feature in Tumblr. The foundation and main reason to have a blog, in my opinion, is not to be popular, but to be able to express your ideas, your opinions and communicate what you like or dislike with a potential audience, whatever if it’s large or not.
I always thought the vision behind the foundation of Tumblr was a simple tool to express yourself. Those Tumblarity numbers and ranking are just a big trap emphasizing that you need to be popular if you are blogging.
Funny as Marco Arment, their main developer, commented a link this week about Why do you blog?:
What’s most interesting to me is that for most of these reasons, the audience size is completely irrelevant.
