How to remove the dust under your iPhone glass

Last evening I dropped my iPhone on the floor. OMG! Ouf! It’s ok, but what the heck are those white spots on my screen?

It is inevitable, at some point in time, it will happen to you also, if not already. The glass of the iPhone 3G is in two parts and dust will find its way in through the edge of the glass. After a drop, those particles of dust will move their way under the glass. Annoying I know.

Online, you’ll find some poeple who go crazy by removing the glass and clean it, and YouTube is full of how to disassemble your iPhone 3G, but on my part I decided to simply try to replicate what happen when my iPhone dropped on the floor.

I hitted (not so gently) the iPhone in the palm of my hand in the direction where I wanted the dust particles to go away, and at my big surprise, it works!

So before you jump in an extensive iPhone disassemble and repair procedure, try this simple one.

Note: For the new iPhone 4, Apple are using a new production process that effectively fuses the LCD and touchscreen — there is no longer any air between the two. One result of this is that the iPhone 4 should be impervious to this dust-under-the-glass issue. Thanks Apple.
