Instapaper vs Tumblr iPhone App

The 2.1.2 update was just approved and is now available in the App Store.

New in Instapaper Pro:

  • Tumblr and Twitter sharing now work offline. Posts are submitted when you regain an internet connection.
  • Tumblr sharing can now optionally post as a draft or queued post.
  • Tumblr’s “(via Instapaper)” attribution is now optional.
  • Fixed Birdfeed sharing.

If you haven’t yet installed Instapaper on your iPhone or iPod Touch, why not give it a try? Learn more.

How come, Instapaper, an iPhone app to save and read later long articles, is becoming even better at sharing and posting on Tumblr then the official Tumblr iPhone app? Since Tumblrette (the original Tumblr iPhone app developed by Jeff Rock) has been acquired by Tumblr, no improvement has been done. I don’t even remember having updated the app since I installed it 7 months ago!

It is the same developer (Marco Arment) behind Instapaper and Tumblr. I understand that they are two completely separated projects (one personal and one professional) and that the priorities for both can be fully different, but it will be nice to see some improvement in the official Tumblr iPhone app, specially for re-editing and reblogging posts. It is just a pain right now. And what about all the offline posting feature that is now in Instapaper?. So cool.
